Porcelain Crowns – Your Plano Dentist Will Get You Smiling Again

When a tooth can not be fixed with a simple filling due to a fracture or depth of a cavity, you will likely need to have a crown (or tooth cap) placed.

At Star Ranch Dental in Plano, we primarily use porcelain crowns instead of gold or porcelain fused to metal. Porcelain crowns allow the patient to keep the look of their natural tooth color.

Porcelain crowns are made to match the original shape, color, and size of your natural teeth – giving you a result that will keep you smiling!

We will always assess your personal situation in order to give the best care for YOU. Gold crowns are, however, noticeable in a patient’s mouth and porcelain fused to metal crowns can wear, and at some point the porcelain can fracture or wear off leaving metal showing in your mouth. In many cases, the metal from a porcelain fused to metal crown can be seen at the gum line. Dr. Barnett or Dr. Shewski, your Plano, Texas dentist, will always recommend what you need in your personal situation, presenting the best results that will match your unique smile!

Having a porcelain crown placed is a two step process. First, we will prep the tooth and take some impressions to send to the lab that will create your crown. Our team will place a temporary tooth made from a thin, removable plastic while the lab creates your customized porcelain crown. When your crown returns from the lab, we will remove the temporary and seat your permanent crown.
